Activities

Perth Mountaineering Club (PMC)

At present the club undertakes a range of activities ranging from Climbing & Hillwalking, Scrambling & Ski-Touring. With monthly meets in club huts and bunkhouses, day-meets throughout the year, and weekly indoor climbing on a Wednesday evening at the Academy of Sport and Wellbeing Climbing wall at UHI, Perth.

Hillwalking

The are many keen hillwalkers in the club, with many members having compleated the Munros.  Hillwalking meets range from serious, multi-Munro expeditions to short and sociable trips up local hills.

Scrambling

Throughout the year there are ample opportunities to get out on the hills with plenty of club members participating in scrambling throughout Scotland and can be a good opportunity to cover lots of ground, move quickly and find your way around many of the crags, venues and most iconic ridgelines Scotland and the UK has to offer.

Rock Climbing

Among us are keen climbers enjoying routes on big mountains and local crags in summer and winter. On Wednesday evenings in the summer we can be found on the local crags such as Dunkeld, Craig A’ Barns and Tulliemet. There are many trad, sport and bouldering venues reachable in an evening from Perth, and we try to visit as many as possible over the year.

Winter Climbing

The club was founded by members enthusiastic for the conditions Scotland has to offer through the Winter, and winter climbing has been sewn into the fabric of the club’s activities, ranging from mountaineering, winter hillwalking and technical winter mixed climbing. Perth is ideally suited for day trips to many of Scotland’s finest winter venues such as the Cairngorms, Glencoe and Ben Nevis.

The club is lucky to have access to huts in many of the best winter mountaineering locations in scotland and the winter weekend meets focus around these areas, with one of the highlights being a visit to the CIC hut, nestled 680m up in the north face of Ben Nevis.

Ski Touring

There is an enthusiastic group of ski-mountaineers within the club who are keen to take advantage of any opportunity and conditions to get out in the Scottish mountains and it is a great way to explore the mountains in winter.
