Central Gully, Ben Lui, 21st January, 2020

Attendees: Craig, Catherine, Tina, Tim .
This was an impromptu day out, suggested by Craig.  Both the weather forecast and avalanche reports looked promising and as Craig had suggested an easy and highly rated gully, I was keen to tag along. We met up at Dalrigh at about 9.30 and as I remembered the long walk in on the track, I wondered why no one had suggested bringing bikes.  Apparently, so had everybody else, without voicing it.  Hmm.  We set off under blue skies, immediately bumping into the first of the competitors taking part in the Tyndrum 24 hour race.  Some were already over the 100 mile mark, having run throughout the night. As we passed Cononish we had a clear view of the snow field and gully, which seemed to be in perfect condition.

Dec 2019 Glenshee Meet

Ten members of the club had a sociable meet at the Dutton’s old house in Glenshee. Despite the short day length 4 Munros were climbed on the Saturday including Carn Aosda, Cairnwell, Carn a Gheoidh and Carn an Righ. The latter involving an epic bike ride in snow, ice, water and mud. Two Grahams were also climbed, being smaller hills Duchray Hill and Mount Blair were climbed together.

On the Sunday we did the gorge scramble on wet mossy rock. An interesting experience contrasting sharply with the Christmas climbing wall get-together on the same weekend. The days being short most went home but 5 of us headed to Braemar for a short trip up Craig Choinnich.

Muir Cottage Meet, Linn of Dee – April 2019

PMC: Muir Cottage Meet, Linn of Dee – April 2019

We had a super turn out for this meet with 11 attendees converging on Muir Cottage over the weekend. This was a new venue for many, I have stayed a few times and it is one of my favourite huts. The weekend got off to a good start on Friday with an evening of chatting, planning, catching up with friends and getting to know new people, all round a cosy wood burning stove.

Ben Alder day meet April 2019

Ben Alder day meet, 14th April

Present: Richard , Pam, Alasdair, Jim , Grahame  and Raymond (guest).

This turned out to be an over 60’s meet, the younger members perhaps put off by the length of the proposed outing. From Dalwhinnie the superb surface of the track allowed a speedy cycle along Loch Ericht, this slowed somewhat to the point just past Culra where we dumped the bikes. A bitingly cold easterly wind made its presence felt as we headed towards the Short Leachas. Raymond branched off to the left into the corrie to climb a snow gully, while rest of us scrambled up the ridge. The team regrouped on the plateau before reaching the summit. We continued south and down to the Bealach Breabag then up onto Beinn Bheoil. With the wind behind us now a rapid descent was made back to the bikes and a long cycle back to Dalwhinne. A fine day out.
