Club
History
Perth Mountaineering Club began life as the Perth Section of the Junior Mountaineering Club of Scotland in 1929 and, apart from the period during the Second World War, has since provided a focus for mountaineering activity in all its forms for those living in the Perth area. The JMCS (at one time comprising sections from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Lochaber, Inverness, London and Perth) held its first meet in 1925 and was a club largely for mountaineers not yet qualified to join the Scottish Mountaineering Club, the 'Senior Club'. A Whole Club AGM of the JMCS still takes place each spring and links between the sections are maintained although each operates more or less autonomously. The use of the word Junior in the title should not put off prospective members of a more advanced age as our membership ranges pretty much from 18 to 80-plus!

The Club caters for all levels of ability and experience and organises regular day and weekend hillwalking/climbing meets throughout the year, mainly in Scotland but occasionally further afield. Details can be found in the Club's newsletter. Meets may be camping or hut meets. Full members have priority when places on meets are restricted. For popular meets payment may be required on booking to secure a space. Meet convenors will assist with transport arrangements (transport is usually in members' cars with fuel costs shared). Members are free to choose their own hill/climb when on a meet but should ensure the convener is given details of their route etc. Members share the cleaning of huts etc at the end of a meet and each should carry out his/her own rubbish. During the summer the rock climbers usually meet on Wednesday evenings to climb on local crags and in winter visit a climbing wall. Through the winter the Club arranges slide shows/other events. An AGM is held in November/December and a dinner is held annually.

Personal
safety
| Whilst the Club caters for all abilities and levels of experience members, prospective members and guests must accept that mountaineering and it's related activities are risk activities that carry with them a danger of death or injury and must at all times take responsibility for themselves and exercise a duty of care towards other people when participating in Club activities. The Club does not offer instruction but encourages its members to seek professional training. The Club may assist with arranging training. Convenors of meets should not be regarded as leaders. The Club does not provide equipment and members must have the appropriate clothing and equipment with which they should be familiar when participating in Club activities. | |
